iPhone 15 camera will fold in new zoom claims analyst

According to a new report, Apple wants to increase camera settings in the iPhone lineup with a new 48 megapixel camera next year. In addition, the company is reportedly aiming to add a periscope lens that displays the camera optics folded at the beginning of 2023.

Ming-chi Kuo, an Apple analyst known, reportedly distributed details about the increase in iPhone cameras in Note with TF International Securities, according to Macrumors. The report claimed the kuo did not provide “further details” to increase the camera that Apple was suspected of planning, however, past reports from analysts have shown a plan to bring a 48 megapixel camera to the iPhone 14 Pro. The camera will allow for 8K video recording, where the current resolution limit is 4K.

Kuo has also shared a previous record that he believes Apple will offer 12 megapixel output and 48 megapixels on the iPhone 14 Pro model using a process called pixel binning. Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra already use this technique, and it can allow the camera on the iPhone to switch between the output depending on the lighting conditions.

The iPhone 15 can get the camera optics folded in 2023

Macrumors also noted that Kuo further discussed his belief that Apple would carry a periscope lens to at least one iPhone 15 model in 2023. It will open the way to increase the folded camera zoom. With folded optics, the camera absorbs the light that is bent and focused when passing the “folded” element.

This allows an increase in optical zoom levels when it still lets the camera array fit in the smartphone (via UCSD). We have heard of the alleged Apple plan to use optics folded with the iPhone for many years, including the patent provided by the company in August (through Apple).

Smartphone cameras have grown more complex for years, because producers work to offer the best cameras that they can within the limits of handset size. Adding a folded optical camera can allow Apple to further bridge the gap. With a periscop lens, the iPhone 15 might provide optical zoom up to 10x, something we have seen in Huawei’s P40 Pro +. At present, the iPhone 13 Pro model only offers up to 3x optical zoom, so it will be a big increase.

The Kuo report is not always true, however, he does have a proven track record. Of course, we still have to wait for an official announcement from Apple before the changes are guaranteed. If true, the next two years can bring some very interesting upgrades for the Apple iPhone camera.
