Three and EE will offer 4G and 5G access across London Underground

England’s three and EE mobile providers are the first network to reach an agreement regarding 4G and 5G coverage throughout the underground London. The operator has reached an agreement with the Bai Communications infrastructure provider, which is currently building a network throughout the tube as part of a 20-year concession with transportation for London. The three and EE deal will provide customers access to cellular data inside the station and when in the tube.

London underground networks have offered wifi connectivity for almost a decade, but only available for certain operator customers on certain platforms. Earlier this year, transportation for London chose Bai Communications to build a cellular network that included all stations and tunnels, allowing passengers to check e-mail, watch videos, and do all the others online at 4G or 5G even when they are in the lower metal tube land.

Bai has started building a network at several London busiest stations, including Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, Bank, Euston and Camden Town. They will be the first to allow 4G and 5G connectivity by the end of 2022. City authorities expect the network to be completed and for the entire Underground London to have cellular coverage at the end of 2024.
